Dnyanada (Neha) Gokhale-Agashe - PhD student
I am pursuing my PhD at the Centre for Genetic Origins of Health and Disease (GOHaD), University of Western Australia. My PhD research topic focuses on the genetics of Preeclampsia. Preeclampsia is a disorder specific to pregnancy characterised by hypertension and proteinuria. It is a major cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and has a genetic basis.
Preeclampsia is complex and the genetic causes of this disorder remain elusive. My PhD research will contribute towards understanding which genes may play a role in increasing the risk of developing Preeclampsia through the use of next generation sequencing technologies in family based sequencing studies.
The technological advances in the field of DNA sequencing have been phenomenal, and throughout my student years I was eager to learn and work in this area. I finally got an opportunity to do so during the course of my PhD and this was my introduction to next generation sequencing technologies and their analysis specifically whole genome and whole exome sequence analysis.
Prior to my PhD journey, I have worked in the area of DNA based vaccines in the Research and Development wing of Gennova Biopharmaceuticals, Pune, India.
